San Jose: Motorcyclist killed in crash near I-880 and Bascom Avenue

SAN JOSE – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Thursday afternoon in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened about 4:13 p.m. when a man riding a Harley Davidson northbound on Interstate 880 took the off-ramp to southbound Bascom Avenue, said CHP Officer Ross Lee.

Lee said the motorcyclist “failed to negotiate the curve and continued straight.” He then went down an embankment and crashed into a pickup truck traveling northbound on Bascom.

The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the motorcyclist’s identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin has been notified.
