SAN CARLOS — A man was arrested after returning to the site where police say he fatally assaulted a woman in a residential neighborhood late Thursday morning, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office — which provides police service in San Carlos — reported that they were flagged down at about 11:50 a.m. by people describing “an assault in progress” on Laurel Street near Magnolia Avenue, about a block west of El Camino Real.
The deputies went to a nearby residence and found a deceased woman, the sheriff’s office said. As they were examining the scene, a man they later identified as her attacker showed up at the location, and he was detained and later placed under arrest in connection with the death.
The sheriff’s office stated that the suspect and victim knew each other, and that no public threat was posed by the homicide. The victim’s name was not immediately released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the homicide can contact Sheriff’s Detective David Brandt at 650-323-8195 or email@example.com.
