Magnitude 3.5 quake rattles remote end of county park

SAN JOSE — A shallow earthquake registering 3.5 magnitude rumbled underneath a South Bay county park but did not cause any injuries or visible damage, the U.S. Geological Survey said Sunday.

The quake struck at 4:55 p.m. at a depth of about 4.3 miles, and was centered under the Foothill and Hotel trails in the southern end of Joseph D. Grant County Park.

There were no reports of injuries, damage or other disruptions in the quake.

USGS scientists have predicted a 63 percent chance of a magnitude 6.7 or larger quake striking the Bay Area in the next 30 years.
