Growing 100-acre fire along Highway 4 poses ‘no threat’ to Crockett or Port Costa, officials say

CROCKETT — A 50-acre along Highway 4, near Crockett and Rodeo, is not a threat to homes at this time, according to fire officials who caution the blaze is growing.

The Franklin Fire started around 6:30 p.m. Monday, west of Cummings Skyway. Firefighters from Crockett/Rodeo/Hercules Fire, Con Fire, Cal Fire, and Pinole fire departments are responding and the fire is being fought by air. Traffic along Highway 4 has slowed due to the blaze.

The cause of the fire — which occurred amidst record-setting high temperatures around the Bay Area — has not yet been determined.

Officials say both Port Costa and Crockett are not threatened as of 7 p.m.
