A good week for battery storage companies, a bad week for PG&E

Battery industry

A tenfold increase in industrial battery storage since 2020 helps California avert blackouts by storing solar energy to use at night during heat waves. Many similar projects are planned in the next few years.

California’s grid operator, the ISO, avoids rolling blackouts during record heat wave. But PG&E equipment failures cause outages for tens of thousands of South Bay and East Bay residents.

Fast food workers

Gov. Gavin Newsom signs a new law to create a council to set standards for pay and working conditions at fast food restaurants. But the industry is trying to qualify a ballot measure to block it.
